Ch, Ch, Ch, Changes!

Well, I know I promised you that I would keep you informed of all the gory details of my move to Key West.  And I am guilty of being remiss in my promise.  However, things have been moving so fast that I haven't had time to report on one thing before another thing changes.

So, the biggest change in my life (and the most fulfilling) is I QUIT MY JOB!  Just like in David Sloan's Book Quit your Job and Move to Key West.

Now, I know that sounds counter-productive.  If you're trying to relocate your life, you would keep your job and make as much money as possible in order to move.  However, I was spending 45-50 hours a week at a job I hated. Another 15 hours a week driving to a job a hated. And all the time I was miserable at my job and miserable in traffic.  I was working out in the boondocks, in an office with no windows and absolutely no inspiration except my Key West Calendar, by Rob O'Neal.

Then I got sick.  A nasty chest cold, virus, coughing, flu, fever, allergy thing.  I spent a whole week in bed.  My company was pissed because I didn't drag myself to work to get everyone else sick. And as I was lying in bed dying...I get this angry phone call from the owner of the company, blah, blah, blah and I hung up the phone and went back to sleep.  When I woke up I felt better!  I felt better because I had made up my mind that I was never going to let someone dictate how I live my life ever again.

I called him up, told him I wasn't coming back and I would be in as soon as I was better to pick up my stuff.  End of conversation, end of job, end of misery.

I felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I immediately began recuperating! I felt better than I had in days!  I had a smile on my face! I posted my new found freedom to Facebook!  I went out and walked Mr. Mooney!  I called my child and invited her to lunch! All the things I hadn't been able to do while I was working suddenly became attainable goals.

I had gotten so wrapped up in the process of planning my life, I wasn't living my life.

So I started looking for inspiration.  I found it and now I want to share it with you!

When ever I get down, I reach out to The Bimini Mango Man! You just can't help but have a smile on your face when your hear him and his wonderful music.

200 Days - Staying the Course

200 Days!

In only 6 1/2 months, I'll be in Key West!  Time is flying quickly.  I'm mentally prepared for the big move, but it has been hard the last few weeks to keep focused on the future.  (That's kind of the reason I haven't updated my blog.)

As crazy as it seems...I've been working non-stop towards this goal and now that I am getting closer to reality, I feel like I'm running out of steam.

But, I always get by with a little help from my friends and last week Courtney Aman, owner/trainer Old Town Fitness sent me this wonderful piece of advice.
"Here's a tip for you in your quest to live down here in paradise like we fortunate ones. Imagine that you already live here and actually act as if you do--feel it. I promise you it will come to pass, don't worry about the 'how', just concentrate on the goal line."
So, to keep on track, pretend I am already there and imagining myself walking on the beach  I went out and bought the PERFECT Key West beach dress.

I was only $14.99 at Ross, and as you might know (or not) there is a Ross Dress for Less in Key West.  In fact, it's one of the only places for the locals to shop on the island for discount clothes, shoes and housewares.

Key West Get-Away of the Day:  BIKES

There are more bikes on the island than cars.  Biking is a way of life.  My goal is to walk or ride everywhere I possibly can as long as I live on the Rock. We have every imaginable bike you could every imagine in Key West.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I hope you have enjoyed the ride!

Daily Urban Sprawl and Stress

The planning, the stress, the organization needed to move across the Country has been overwhelming.  So I have not posted as often as I would like.

I live in a city/suburban sprawl that covers 460 square miles.  AND I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE.

We have 6 police sub-stations.

THE FREEWAYS ARE A NIGHTMARE!

This is what I had to drive through everyday, twice a day to get to my job.  Subsequently, earlier this month, I was FIRED from said job, because I was 5 minutes late for work.  My office was only 15 miles away and I was spending 1 hour and 15 minutes MINIMUM,  to get TO & FROM  work everyday.

This is the actually route I drove through.

I WAS LOSING MY MIND. (Actually, I had to take Valium before I left work everyday in order to drive home).

(From Wikipedia)
Rapid growth in San Antonio has resulted in the original highway becoming quickly inadequate, resulting in the highway being in perpetual construction and expansion. In the 1980s the portion just northwest of downtown was reconstructed to add a double deck feature to expand the freeway to five lanes in each direction. In 1990, the interstate had only two lanes in each direction from Loop 1604 to where the double deck freeway begins near downtown. Recent construction has expanded the freeway to five lanes in each direction from just outside the I-410 loop all the way into downtown. The I-10/I-410 interchange was reconstructed into a four-level stack interchange.[4]

So I am trading it all in for this...

On an island that is only 6 square miles, my primary mode of transportation is going to be this...

 Or this...

Or this...

Or this... (My Trikke, of course)

Or my NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle)

Or this...(My Hobie)

And last, but not least... my rollerskates!

Come visit me in Key West!
